Carbon Credits

Costa Rica has announced that it intends to be the first “carbon neutral” country in the world. It can do this primarily because 90% of its power is already produced sustainably (mainly hydroelectric dams.) The balance can be made up by planting lots and lots of trees, and by attempting to lower the amount of fossil fuels burned. There’s a movement to produce bio-fuels using palm oil in plantations throughout the country, but whether this is “green” is up for debate.
